At the turn of the 19th century, one perfect bolt-action rifle was introduced, to be remembered forever as: The Mauser 98. Since then, over 100 million rifles have been produced on this action, a testament to the design’s greatness.

Company Johann Fanzoj has been building Mauser rifles for over hundred years. Our appreciation of the Mauser 98 has matured through those decades and has not worn out for a single day. We know it inside and out. Its internal parts are, to us, the ABCs of rifle craftsmanship. Among hundreds of rifles, we recognize the Mauser 98 by the distinctive sound of its bolt being operated.

When we – proudly and somewhat sentimentally – leaf through family and company albums, when we conjure up images of memory, the Mauser repeatedly appears in highly diverse scenarios. We see the stoic Karawanks, young Johann Fanzoj senior searching rifles, hastily buried in the ground after the war, bringing them into the workshop like treasures – in order to recreate them as hunting rifles. We see snapshots of the workshop, see master-gunmakers and apprentices working on the action of a Mauser rifle, with utmost dedication and concentration. We see the seemingly endless series of images of our customers and ourselves, from America, Arabia, Yugoslavia, Russia, each like a postcard – everyone with the secret star, the Mauser.

Mauser rifles are, if you will, firmly woven into the DNA of the Fanzoj manufactory – and their evolution is our agenda. We have sorted thru the enormous variety of historic actions of different periods – and restored and modified them over time. We have always built high-quality bolt action rifles with refined Argentino actions. We produce new actions within our company, from steel, and since 2010 also unique worldwide – from Titanium, when the Johann Fanzoj TITANIUM TI-3 was born. We have developed our own trigger and mount for the Mauser, a trigger which breaks like glass – and lately, a carbon stock. Over many years firm Johann Fanzoj has been engaging part of our infrastructure in the realization of extensive (art) theme projects, where we focus world-class craftsmen, technical minds and artists to create exceptional mechanical items and use those as a canvas for capturing stories about life and death, beauty, hunting, nature etc. reflecting on the deep symbolism and stark contrasts inherent in the subject. Born from hundreds, often thousands, of hours of dedication, these extraordinary works are more than just objects. They are tributes to over 500 years of gunsmithing tradition in our hometown of Ferlach, in Austria’s Rose Valley.

Attracted by the reputation of our Mauser rifles, many hunters have already come to us in the old world, to Ferlach, Austria. Thus, beautiful and great projects have commenced. A true magic resides with each of them. It reveals itself in those moments when a spark of enthusiasm flashes in the customer’s eye, when he suddenly feels that the outlines of his ideas are beginning to take shape. Then the bridge is built, then the bond is tied.
