A LONG-HELD VISION IS BECOMING REALITY
Johann Fanzoj Gunmaking Academy: Small beginnings – July 2026
Sometimes, the most meaningful journeys begin with a simple yes.
For years, we had to turn away young people who wanted to learn our craft. This year, we said yes.
At this very moment, three gifted young women sit in our workshop atelier, training for their journey to become future engravers. Guided by Master Engraver Jürgen Sparoutz and supported by our entire team, a place of learning has emerged almost overnight.
A temporary place for now — but like a small seed, nurtured with heart and dedication, a vision is beginning to grow.
For more than 500 years, the Art of Gunmaking has shaped life here in our hometown of Ferlach. Today, this unique cultural heritage and its centuries-old body of knowledge are under threat worldwide. Traditions survive only when they are passed on.
Perhaps this is the beginning of the Johann Fanzoj Gunmaking Academy.
